Mac OS X Lion 10.7 has now become officially available at an incredibly low price. Had been running Lion DP and GM for a couple of weeks now and the experience constantly improved over time. The OS didn’t cause any problems but many apps did. Most apps have been updated for Lion compatibilty recently and I’m sure the others will follow soon.

This is a detailed description of how to create a bootable USB flash drive that actually will boot DOS, Linux or even Windows on your Mac. There are countless threads about this but none had helped me in this particular situation.
Your Mac won’t boot from any MBR partition on USB flash drives (thumb/pen drive, memory stick, SD, …) directly. Whereas DOS doesn’t know about GPT partitioning scheme… This is where rEFit fills the gap.
I used several PCs for testing and formating as some tools are only available as Windows executable and others are Linux only. This particular task was to create a DOS boot drive for a MacBook Pro 2008 from the bootable CD ISO image.

You may have read my previous review on the Seagate Momentus XT hybrid SDD/HDD and even bought one for your MacBook (Pro). Mine is running fine and I’m still very pleased with its performance after 5 months now. No freezes or lockups or crashes though I noticed periodic spin-downs every once in a while. Not a real SSD but still pretty fast, especially on regularly used files and apps. And that’s where it counts most.
Apparently the first revision SD22 had some issues with power management/spin down cycles. I haven’t had any problems with my drive which already came with firmware revision SD23. There are still some users reporting problems (mostly Windows users
) with intermittent OS hanging/freezing and crashing with SD23. Read how to perform firmware update for Momentus XT on Mac…
Apple officially released the final iOS 4. It’s still called iPhone OS 4 in the SDK, but both names refer to the same code/piece of software. The iOS 4 GM (Golden Master) was made available to developers 2 weeks ago and should be exactly the same code as yesterday’s official release. I’ve been testing iOS 4 on my iPhone 3G for 2 weeks now and reported some of my experiences in my iOS 4 review on iPhone 3G.
