This is the small iPod/iPhone USB Power Adapter (A1300) compared to the old one (A1205). Both have the same power output.
If you travel abroad you’ll need an extra AC plug adapter. The interchangable AC plugs from Apple’s World Travel Adapter Kit can’t be used on the new one.
The slim design fits nicely into my Brenthaven bag’s side pocket along with the MacBook Pro’s power adapter where the bulky wall wart (A1205) never did. Continue reading “iPhone 3G vs 4 – USB Power Adapter” »
It’s been a couple of weeks now that I finally got my iPhone 4. My provider couldn’t deliver so I had to buy it directly from Apple. Canceling the pre-order from my provider was a tough job. I literally spent 3h on hold standing in the Apple Store just to reach someone to cancel the pre-order of the not-available-iPhone-4. Not joking! Only then I could get my new iPhone from Apple directly.
The new iPhone 4 has been activated at the Apple Store and the Micro-SIM has been unlocked a few mins later. Back home I immediately took a few pics of the unpacking. Continue reading “iPhone 4 vs 3G – unpacking and getting started” »
Just updated my iPhone 3G to iOS 4.1 beta 2. The beta 1 already did a good job in improving the UI responsiveness over iOS 4.0 but beta 2 acts like a turbo! No more delays and snappy interface – almost feels like an iPhone 3GS. In my previous post I mentioned the clogged iPhone 3G after unlock. Now this issue has been completely remedied. Even apps seem to start faster. Wow! Continue reading “iOS 4.1 beta 2 released – much improved performance” »
It’s been a week now since I installed the new iOS 4.1 beta to my iPhone 3G. Hesitated at first, but then I gave it a shot and am very pleased. It feels much faster on the UI and crashes less often than the “stable” iOS 4.0. Many apps still close intermittently or won’t even start but overall the 4.1 beta seems to be less demanding on resources like memory or background processes. Apple officially released the final iOS 4. It’s still called iPhone OS 4 in the SDK, but both names refer to the same code/piece of software. The iOS 4 GM (Golden Master) was made available to developers 2 weeks ago and should be exactly the same code as yesterday’s official release. I’ve been testing iOS 4 on my iPhone 3G for 2 weeks now and reported some of my experiences in my iOS 4 review on iPhone 3G.

Apple just released the GM (Golden Master) candidate for developers. I downloaded and tested the new iOS 4 yesterday on my iPhone 3G 16GB. I skipped the betas as it’s currently my only phone and some of the betas were reported to render the iPhone pretty unstable.
This final release of the new iPhone OS 4 (now called iOS 4 as its range of target devices has been extended to iPhone, iPod and iPad) works fine and stable on my old iPhone 3G. I still can’t record videos and have to pass the multitasking feature due to lack of CPU power.

Not every provider has approved tethering with your iPhone. Some countries even have a netlock installed on their devices and Apple has locked up access to most parts of the iPhone OS for any user.
There are a few jailbreak solutions out there and I had an early try with QuickPWN which didn’t work out as expected. After that I didn’t even bother trying out yellowsn0w or any of the other colored snow cracks. Continue reading “iPhone 3.1.2 jailbreak: Net, SIM, Tethering lock – unlock it all” »
Have tried the iPhone OS 3.0 Beta 5 for a couple of days now and am not too impressed. Tethering, Copy/Paste and A2DP were the main features I wanted to use early. Copy and Paste work. Continue reading “Review: iPhone OS 3.0 Beta 5 firmware – ups and downs” »
