iPhone: RC drone with video feed

On 2010/08/19, in Real Life, by jERRy

How cool is that! Parrot is close to release of the RC quadcopter that can be controlled from your iPhone. It’s like a RC helicopter, but much easier to fly. Actually it hovers on its own and you just have to direct in which direction it should move by tilting your iPhone. Looks pretty easy to me according to the product videos.

The really cool thing about this drone is the video feed from its 2 built in cams sending back a live video stream of front and below views. Currently it can only be pre-ordered in the UK and US for USD/GBP 299. Availability for Europe (299 €) and Asia will be announced soon. 299 in any currency? Haven’t they heard about exchange rates? At least they don’t charge for delivery.

More videos and product details with ordering info can be seen on Parrot’s site. Communication between iPhone and AR.Drone is handled over WiFi.

Always wanted to fit a small video cam onto my RC heli, but the additional weight, the cost and the high probability of a crash while watching the live image stalled the project. I didn’t even bother repairing it after the last major crash…

I want it!
