Didn’t have much time lately until now, so I just started mission 1 on MacHeist3 today. This mission is quite fun. It’s all about three files… (Download them first). Again, this is no complete walk through but points you into the right direction to solve the mission. I don’t want it to be a spoiler and you should have some fun left while finding the solution.

The body of Authur Aski’s email contains some strage characters. Somehow it reminds me of ASCII art from the 80′s. Let’s copy the text into a real text editor…

2008 was the year of the rat
Is this really about Black Jack? The Jack is K which is the 11th letter in the alphabet and the King is M which is the 13th letter. The Ace is A which is the 1st letter… First comes the Clubs then the Hearts. Could this mean that the Ace of Hearts is the 14th letter? Let me write down some letters: 9 of Clubs is I, Ace of Hearts is N, … sound more like another pass phrase – or is it a domain?
The real time projection doesn’t seem to work correctly in our time. Of course, it only works in its own real time!

Haha, always wanted to use phonetic spelling to avoid confusion. Just read it out loud, listen, and type. If you’re too lazy to read for yourself then let your Mac read it for you!

Some pairs of numbers and a little electronic device to enter the correct code. What happens when you change the numbers? Oops, for some numbers the segments of the circles to the left and right increase and for others they decrease. And what happens if I just click every number to completely eliminate all the segments?

It flashes and I think I’ve already seen this number before. Where was it again? Aye, that’s the ISBN of the book I saw at the book store last week! With the book in my hand I can easily look up the pages and words to get the next pass phrase.
